Education for Youth, Adults and Elderly: a project with video production for teaching notions of Statistics for senior students

In this work, we bring an experience report on the formulation of a methodological proposal for the teaching of Statistics focusing on the elderly person, who attends Youth, Adult and Elderly Education. This proposal is part of a project developed within the scope of PIBIC (Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships) at the Federal University of Alagoas. Through qualitative research, we approached the elaboration of videos for YouTube with Statistics content based on daily life, from real data extracted from newspapers, having as character Grandma Sabina. In addition to focusing on the teaching proposal, the project with videos sought to reinsert the elderly in educational contexts in a way that values their life experiences and connects them with digital media. The results demonstrate that adequate methodologies and teaching materials are needed for teaching and learning statistical concepts that value statistical literacy and critical competence. Furthermore, the existence of diverse initiatives that integrate the elderly into the literacy process is essential, stimulating their active participation in the construction of knowledge and the preparation of these videos constitute a potentially significant resource that focuses on the knowledge of elderly students and their social practices.
