Resolution of Problems in the Multiplicative Field with Children of 1st and 2nd Years of Elementary School

Abstract

This article aims to analyze analyze the protocols of nine years children from the first and second years of elementary school of a private school in the city of São Paulo, involving the resolution of problems of the Conceptual Field of Multiplicative Structures. It is part of the doctoral research in Mathematics Teaching, in which the research student, CAPES scholarship holder, from Cruzeiro do Sul University, participates in the research group, Knowledge, Beliefs and Practices of Teachers Teaching Mathematics (CCPPM), Postgraduate Program in Science Teaching. This group develops a set of researches on the teaching of Mathematics in the initial years of Elementary School that, when explored with greater acuity, allow to bring greater contributions to the area. The research of qualitative nature, with procedures of documentary analysis of protocols and video-filming. Among the results, we emphasize that children in the first and second years of elementary school, even without knowing the multiplication tables or algorithms, solve problems of the Multiplicative Field, using personal strategies, or even by adding and arriving at the correct resolution.
