The teacher training for mathematics education from the perspective of intercultural practices: indigenous peoples, traditional black communities, and rural education

This text provides a summary of the discussions that took place within the context of Working Group 5 (WG5): Teacher Training for Mathematics Education from the Perspective of Intercultural Practices: Indigenous Peoples, Traditional Black Communities, and Rural Education, during the VIII São Paulo Forum on Teacher Training for Mathematics Education, hosted by the São Paulo Campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of São Paulo on March 31, 2023, and April 1, 2023. The main objective of WG5 was to foster discussions on the teacher training for mathematics education within the context of ethnic-racial relations, interculturality, anti-racist mathematics education, and rural education. The discussions particularly addressed elements present in teaching, research, and extension practices that directly engage with the provisions of Laws 10.639/2003, 11.645/2008, 7.352/2010, as well as the school curriculum of mathematics and its relationship with the specificities of different teaching modalities regarding the theme of WG5. The results of the discussions point to the recognition of the importance of this theme in the context of teacher education, especially to enhance practices that consider mathematics learning as part of the humanization process that values the intercultural contexts of the individuals involved in the processes and to overcome other practices that tend to view mathematics as an end in itself.
